Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful trauma healing approach developed in the late 1980's by psychologist Dr. Francine Shapiro. She noticed that certain eye movements seemed to reduce emotional distress, and through years of research and refinement, EMDR became a widely recognised and evidence based therapy for healing trauma, anxiety, grief and overwhelming life experiences. Although grounded in science, many people describe the EMDR process as deeply intuitive - almost like the mind finally being given permission to untangle what the heart has held for too long.
What a session looks like
An EMDR session is gentle, collaborative, and paced with your safety and comfort at the centre. We begin by creating a sense of grounding in your body - softening the breath, settling the nervous system, and connecting with the present moment. When you are ready, we use bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements, tapping, or gentle alternating tones) to help the brain process memories, emotions, or sensations that have felt 'stuck'. You do not need to retell every detail of your story. Instead you simply notice what arises while I guide you through a structured, supportive process that allows your mind and body to release old patterns.

What You Can Expect
Most people describe EMDR as a journey toward clarity and emotional freedom. During and after sessions, you may notice shifts in your body, new insights, lighter feelings, or a sense that you are reconnecting with parts of yourself that have been quiet for a long time. Some sessions feel deeply moving, others are more subtle and gentle. All are held with respect, compassion, and care. My role is to walk beside you, help you feel safe, and support the natural healing wisdom your system already carries. EMDR is not about forcing change - its about allowing your mind, body, and spirit to harmonise again at a pace that honours your story.
