Trauma-Informed Yoga
(Individual Sessions)

Individual Trauma-Informed Yoga offers the same gentle, empowering approach as our group classes, but in a one-on-one setting tailored entirely to your needs. Sessions are guided at your pace, with space to explore movement, breath, and grounding techniques that feel safe and supportive for you.

Some People may prefer individual session if they

Feel uncomfortable or anxious in group environments, are living with high levels of hypervigilance or startle response, have physical injuries or health conditions that require modifications or just want to integrate specific therapeutic goals alongside counselling or other trauma recovery work.

Trauma is often stored in the body, influencing the way we breathe, move, and feel. Individual TIY allows for a more personalised approach to releasing held tension, improving nervous system regulation, and building a sense of safety in your body.

As Bessel van der Kolk, MD, a leading trauma researcher, says

“Trauma results in a fundamental reorganization of the way mind and body manage perceptions. Yoga helps people reconnect with their bodies, which is essential for recovery.”
(Van der Kolk, B. A., et al., 2014. Yoga as an Adjunctive Treatment for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder: A Randomized Controlled Trial, Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, 75(6), e559–e565.)

Evidence from this and other studies shows that trauma-sensitive yoga can significantly reduce PTSD symptoms, improve mood, and increase emotional regulation.

For some clients, individual TIY sessions can be funded through ACC Sensitive Claims. If you are already receiving ACC support for trauma therapy, we can help you explore whether this option is available to you.

Trauma-Informed Yoga (Group Classes)

Trauma-Informed Yoga is a gentle, supportive form of movement designed with the unique needs of trauma survivors in mind. Unlike traditional yoga, TIY prioritises emotional and physical safety, choice, and self-empowerment.
Classes are carefully guided at a slower pace, with clear, invitational language and options for every posture, so you can decide what feels right for your body.

Research shows that trauma can live not only in our thoughts and emotions, but also in the body—affecting posture, breath, and nervous system regulation. Trauma-Informed Yoga helps release stored tension, supports grounding, and improves emotional regulation. Many participants find that over time, these practices help reduce anxiety, improve sleep, and foster a renewed sense of connection to themselves and others.
Our group TIY sessions also offer a safe and understanding community space. Practising alongside others can help reduce feelings of isolation and create gentle opportunities for connection in a supportive environment.

For some clients, Trauma-Informed Yoga can be funded through ACC Sensitive Claims, making it an accessible part of your healing plan. If you are already working with a therapist or ACC-funded provider, we can help you explore this option.

Allowing the body to open at its own pace, cultivating surrender and the principle of welcoming everything that it is.

Alignment & Awareness

Yoga emphasizes proper alignment of the body during poses to prevent injury and optimize the benefits of each posture. Practitioners develop greater body awareness and sensitivity to subtle changes within themselves.
